Hello everyone, today, I will write about the book Ready Player 1 by Ernest Cline. This title appeared in my Kindle recommendations which led me to read it.
It is 2044, in a time when humans have ruined the earth. Wade, like most people, spends his time logged into the OASIS, a virtual utopia in which you can shop, play, visit thousands of worlds and learn . The OASIS helps null the effects of many of the problems in the real world. In the real world, food is scarce and homes are hard to buy. Wade lives in a stack, a place where home trailers are “stacked” on top of each other to make more space. His mother is dead and he lives with his aunt, who has only taken him in for the extra food vouchers. He attends school in the OASIS on the planet Ludus. 5 years prior, James Halliday, the creator of the OASIS, died and introduced a competition. You had to find a copper key hidden somewhere in the OASIS which has a clue in it which will lead you to the copper gate. If you pass the test, you get a clue to the whereabouts of the jade key which leads you to the jade gate. The jade gate gives you a clue as to the whereabouts of the crystal key. Once you pass the crystal gate, you get “The egg”. The person who finds the egg gains control of the OASIS and all of Hallidy’s fortune. Wade’s world get turned upside down when he discovers the copper key, 5 years after Halliday’s death. Soon, IOI, a corporation intent on gaining control of the OASIS and charging a monthly fee for it (if you paid 25 cents, you could get a lifetime subscription to the OASIS. IOI wanted to change that), pressures Wade to tell them how to get the copper key. This changes from a game to a deadly hunt. I would rate this book 5 stars, especially considering the fact that this was Ernest Cline’s first book. I love the book and could reread it many times without getting bored.
Thank you for reading this post. I have tried to make it as non-spoilery as possible. Please tell me in the comments if you liked this post and I hope to see you soon in the next one.
